The money is part of a government scheme to support essential maintenance at grassroots sports clubs and help people get active. It is specifically targeted at deprived areas and helping people who may not usually access sport such as women and girls, ethnic minority groups and disabled players.
£100million is being distributed nationally, with projects in Calderdale receiving over £620,000. Over half a million pounds has been awarded to Ryburn Valley High School for a brand-new sports pitch, whilst other projects receiving funding include goalposts, storage, fencing and pitch maintenance equipment.

“I’m delighted to see the government invest in better sports facilities for everyone in Calder Valley. Physical activity can be transformational for our health – not just physically but also mentally. I’ve seen many young people develop their self-esteem and resilience through participation in sport, but they can only do it if the facilities are there. This funding is great news and will benefit local people for years to come.”
